Frequently Asked Questions

ORDERING PROCESS

Where are we shipping?

BOXABL is currently able to ship the Casita to the following states - Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.BOXABL’s goal is to obtain approval in all 50 states, as well as internationally. If your location is not listed above, please still begin the order process below and we will be sure to update everyone on new approvals.

How do I order a Casita?

You can begin the Casita order process here. You will need to input your personal information, as well as project information to get started. If you’re in a state where we are able to sell the Casita, all you need to do is place a $500 fee to have your information handed off to a dealer. If we can’t currently sell in your state, you can join our Priority Reservation Program for $500 to be one of the first people notified on upcoming approvals in your area.

What are the next step?

After you pay your site survey fee, a BOXABL dealer will reach out to coordinate a visit to your property. During the site visit, they will take site measurements, put together a site plan, look into permitting, zoning, site preparation requirements, and work towards providing you a final estimate. If you accept your final estimate, your dealer will begin pulling permits, completing necessary site work, order your Casita, and complete all items necessary for installation. If you’re not in an area where we can currently sell a Casita, and you pay the $500 Priority Reservation Program deposit, you will be notified to begin the process once we have approval in your area.

What happened if I don't pay the $500?

The $500 fee is required to be handed off to a dealer in your area to complete the necessary next steps in getting your Casita installed. If you do not pay the $500 when you order, you are always able to pay it later, but your project is not able to be started until we receive the deposit.

Is there a price-lock guarantee?

The current cost of the Casita for the unit itself is $60,000. When you place an order for the Casita online, your pricing is not locked in until you’ve received a quote for your total project cost after being passed to a dealer. While we don’t anticipate any changes in cost for the Casita, we cannot predict how the cost of raw materials could change within the timeframe between ordering and receiving your Casita. Once you’ve been contacted by a dealer in your area, your pricing and next steps will be confirmed following a site survey and quote.

What is the timeline for getting my Casita installed if I'm in an approved state?

Each project is different in terms of scope and complexity. Following your site survey, and completion of necessary tests, you will receive a final estimate for your specific project. The timing for installation varies depending on your ordered configuration, and the state where you intend to install your Casita. On average, most Park Model RV projects can be completed in 1-3 months, and Modular projects can take 4-6 months for installation. These timelines vary, and your dealer will be the best resource on your overall timeline.

In Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming where there is currently no state modular program, the Casitas may be deployed subject to local jurisdiction approval. In any other state, we are currently unable to sell under the classification of a modular home (residential building code). As we receive additional approvals, we will update people looking to install a Casita in those locations.

While we do not currently offer larger sizes or alternative floor plans, our plan is to expand our product offerings in the future. After your Casita is installed, you are able to explore various customization options similar to how you would remodel a house. We recommend working with a contractor to explore the viability and cost of any customizations you’re considering.

In the future, we will be exploring add-ons from the factory that can be installed on your Casita. We will be sure to keep you updated on any further product and accessory offerings from BOXABL.

In the current design, the interior walls are made up of a material called MGO (Magnesium Oxide) which is similar to drywall and sheetrock. Its properties make it fire, mold, water, and insect resistant.

What kind of stairs can we use?

At this time, the Casitas do not have stairs. An external staircase would be required if you have two Casitas stacked on top of each other. We do not currently offer stairs from the factory, so you would need to work with a contractor to install external stairs.

What size are the windows in the Casita?

In the current design, there are three different window sizes are 36x72, 36x24, and 36x48. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, please consult our Technical Docs page for our current plan sets. The windows are standard double-pane windows.

Is there ventilation?

In the current design of the Casita, there is a bathroom exhaust fan vent, whole house air intake vent, and plumbing system vents. There are also internal air admittance valves to assist the ventilation in locations where it’s difficult to run vent piping to the exterior.

How many power outlets does Casita have?

Inside the Casita, there are 16 receptacles, equaling 29 outlets. In the living room, there are USB outlets in the receptacles. 3 of the receptacles (single outlets) are used for the appliances. Externally, there are 2 receptacles, totaling 4 outlets.

Can you tell me more about the roof?

The Casita has a flat roof that has a TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) membrane that is added to the roof during installation. This membrane is watertight, insulated, and snow load rated. Some areas will require a pitched roof, in that case, you will need to add a roof solution on-site with your contractor. In the future, we are exploring a pitched roof system that can be purchased directly through BOXABL as an addition to the standard Casita.

How does the roof handle snow?

Currently, the standard flat roof is rated at 31lbs per sq. ft. of snow. Depending on your climate zone, a pitched roof may be required to accommodate additional snow load and local code requirements. In that case, you will need to add a roof solution on-site with your contractor. In the future, we are exploring a pitched roof system that can be purchased directly through BOXABL as an addition to the standard Casita.

POWER CONNECTIONS

What is the electrical amp service of the Casita?

In the current design of the Modular Casita, the electrical service is 100 amps. In the current design of the Park Model RV Casita, the electrical service is 50 amps coupled with a gas stove for easier use in Campgrounds and RV Parks.

What is the voltage of the Casita?

In the current design, the electrical voltage of the Casita is 240VAC. The outlets are 120VAC.

Can the Casita be hooked up to gas?

In the current design of the Modular Casita, it is fully electric and not designed to be configured with gas appliances. In the current design of the Park Model RV Casita, it is a 50 amp electrical service to handle the appliances, and a gas range.

Can a generator be used to hook up power and used for heat?

A generator can be used to hook up to the electrical box and power the Casita, assuming it is a large enough generator. The generator would need to be able to service 100 amps. At this point, the Casita is purely electric and does not use gas.

Can they be equipped with solar, or do I have to install the solar myself?

Solar panels would need to be installed after the installation of your Casita is complete. Currently, BOXABL does not provide the option to install solar panels from the factory. Please be advised there will likely be additional costs associated with installing a pitched roof in order for you to install solar on your Casita, but the connections included on the Casita from the factory will allow solar to be integrated if you choose to do so.

Is there enough space for solar and battery packs?

The Casita allows for solar panels and external battery storage systems to be installed at your discretion. Be advised, most solar installers require a pitched roof for solar panels to be installed, and the Casita comes with a flat roof from the factory. Any additional cost associated with installing a pitched roof would need to be discussed with a general contractor. Also, the effectiveness and overall impact of installing solar panels & battery storage systems vary from situation to situation, so consulting with a solar company is strongly advised.

Would solar panels on the roof adequately power the Casita?

Solar panels are designed to help offset your reliance and usage of energy from the connected grid. To gauge the effectiveness of solar panels for your specific situation, a solar company would need to examine your roof pitch, sun exposure, and energy usage history to generate an estimate regarding the ROI & effectiveness of solar panels in your situation. The current electrical draw of the unit is up to 90 amps.

Be advised, most solar companies will require a pitched roof to install solar, and the Casita comes with a flat roof standard from the factory. Any additional cost associated with installing a pitched roof would need to be discussed with your dealer/installer, or with a general contractor after your Casita has already been installed.

TESTING AND DATA

Is the Casita earthquake or seismic tested?

The panels of the Casita undergo an ASTM E2126 cyclic shear test to test their shear load capacity. They are tested for seismic, and a third-party engineer is able to determine the exact capacity of the structure. For more details, refer to the ICC panel listing results found in the Technical Docs page of the BOXABL website.

Is the Casita wind and fire resistant?

The wind load for the Casita is 127mph (exposure C) and 115mph (exposure B). The Casita was engineered with fire resistance in mind. The interior and exterior of the structure are clad with non-combustible materials.

What is the snow load capacity per square foot?

The standard flat roof is rated at 31 lbs. per square foot of snow. Depending on your climate zone, a pitched roof might need to be installed by a contractor to make it compliant with local guidelines pertaining to the weather in your area. Adding a pitched roof to the Casita would greatly increase the snow load capacity. We recommend working with a third-party contractor to assist in adding a roof if you are interested. BOXABL does plan to have roof kits available in the future.

Does the Casita have mechanical ventilation?

The only mechanical ventilation is the bathroom exhaust fan. In addition, we have a whole house air intake vent. We may include a ERV system in the future.

How insulated and energy efficient is a Casita?

The Casita is extremely energy efficient. In fact, it uses a much smaller air conditioning system than a traditional home. The energy efficiency is due to high R-value insulation, tight building envelope, and limited thermal bridging, LED lighting, and energy efficient appliances.

How do you insulate your external hookups?

Currently, we do not insulate external hookups. We recommend consulting with local contractors who have knowledge of your specific climate zone regarding any additional insulation or changes that would be necessary for your Casita to be compliant with local codes.

Our pricing strategy is dynamic and depends on various factors, including the cost of raw materials. Therefore, we may adjust the price accordingly in the future, but we constantly strive to offer the best value to our customers.

Do you offer financing for a Casita?

We are in the process of securing potential partners who can offer financing options to our customers. Our goal is to provide you with a BOXABL Casita that can be financed with a conventional 30-year mortgage. Once partners for financing are secured, we will update our website.

How can I get financed?

You are able to explore financing options through various banks, credit unions, and/or direct mortgage lenders to pay for your Casita. Down payments, loan terms, interest rates, and monthly payments generally vary based on how the loan is structured as well as your specific financial situation. We have a list of preferred lenders that are familiar with the BOXABL Casita and have lending products that can be tailored to meet your specific requirements.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY

Where are you shipping the Casita currently?

BOXABL currently has statewide approval to sell the Casita in Arizona, California, Nevada, and New Mexico. Customers in Utah, Oklahoma, Oregon, Hawaii, Kansas, West Virginia, Vermont, or Alaska may also be able to purchase a Casita, but the plans need to be approved by their local building department.

BOXABL is working on obtaining statewide approvals in the remaining 50 states. If your state is not listed above, please still fill out the order form below & we will be in contact once we have more information on your area.

Local zoning and other factors also play a role in whether you’re able to install a Casita in your area. If you’re in a state listed above, your order details will be handed off to a BOXABL dealer who will connect with you to complete a site survey and determine whether a Casita is a fit for your project.

How much is the shipping fee?

The shipping cost varies depending on the distance from our location in North Las Vegas, NV. A reasonable estimate would be between $5 and $8 per mile. Your quote for shipping cost will be provided by your dealer and will be included in the total project quote that they provide following your site survey.

Can you ship internationally?

We have not yet received approvals to sell Casitas in any country besides the United States, but we are absolutely focused on expanding our presence to the global market in the future. If you are interested in seeing if our current plan set would be approved by your local jurisdiction, you can download it off of the Technical Docs page of our website.

What is the size and weight for shipping?

The unit folds up to 19’ L x 8’6" W x 12’4" H, weighing 13,000lbs. With this size, an oversize load shipping permit is not needed.

What type of truck would be used for delivery?

Due to the height of the unit, a truck with a lowboy trailer would be used for delivery. The weight of the unit is 13,000 pounds, excluding any trailers, so the towing capacity of the truck would need to be able to accommodate the total weight.

Can I transport the unit myself?

At this point, a licensed, bonded, and insured transportation company is required to transport the Casita. If you own/operate a qualified transportation company, we will discuss the possibility on a one-to-one basis at the time your order is ready to ship.

INSTALLATION

Who installs the Casita?

We have a network of preferred BOXABL dealers who handle the Casita installations in areas that we’re approved. They will handle everything from the preliminary site plan, site survey, permitting, site preparation, and installation.

Is it easy to set up?

The Casita is a modular home that can be easily installed on-site much faster than a traditional home is constructed. It takes about an hour to unfold, and installation is typically completed in a day

How are preferred BOXABL installers trained?

Our BOXABL Casitas require expert installation to ensure quality and safety. We currently offer training classes at our North Las Vegas, NV location for our dealers to attend in order to learn how to properly install the Casita, as well as learn everything that is required throughout the process. Dealers who have successfully completed our installer training course will have a "Preferred" badge attached to their listing on our BOXABL Directory.

Can I install the unit myself?

Our BOXABL Casitas require expert installation to ensure quality and safety. If you are interested in installing the Casita, you would need to become a preferred BOXABL installer. We offer monthly training classes for those who want to learn the best practices and techniques to become preferred installers.

Is a crane required for installation?

A crane, forklift, or telehandler (with appropriate capacity) is necessary to move and unfold the Casita at the installation location. The forklift or telehandler can assist in lifting the Casita from the bottom or the sides.

What size of land do I need to put this on?

Land requirements are dependent on local ordinances and building codes. Please contact your local housing authorities to determine what your requirements are.

What type of foundation does the Casita need to be on?

The preferred BOXABL dealer will be able to provide you with the required foundation details for your project following their site survey. The Casita is a versatile structure that can be mounted on different types of foundations, including piers, concrete slabs, or stem walls. Casita demands minimal support and can be easily mounted on any chosen foundation using our specialized connection plates. The selection of the foundation can be tailored to suit your local conditions and soil type. Moreover, the Casita’s sturdy floor guarantees a stable and secure structure. Be sure to check out your local regulations for what is required for your area.

What kind of hookups are needed for the home prior to delivery and installation?

Prior to delivery and installation, the Casita owner is responsible for providing electrical, water, and sewage hookup as well as providing the foundation.

Are the utilities ready to plug in?

The Casita is delivered ready to be plugged into the site, but the site work is not included and must be set up in advance. As a BOXABL owner, it is your responsibility to ensure that all site requirements are already in place before delivery. Plumbing and electrical are pre-installed, so all you need to do is have a preferred BOXABL installer connect it to your site.

Can this be set up as an off-grid dwelling?

We are not currently offering off-grid packages, but the units are compatible with off-grid systems. You would just need something to power the electricity, a water source, and someplace for your waste to go.

Do you have a blueprint/plan set of the Casita?

If you are interested in downloading the current blueprints/plan sets that are available, please visit the Technical Docs page of the BOXABL website. Please note that the blueprints you see on our website have only been approved to the state(s) listed there.
